Thanks to our good contacts with embassies abroad, we also have the possibility to repatriate deceased persons abroad back to Germany. We work very successfully with over 900 companies worldwide. We offer you complete support and processing in the event of a death that would subsequently have to be transferred to Greece.

What documents are required for the repatriation of the deceased to Greece?

The following documents are required for the repatriation of the body to Greece

  • ID card of the deceased or the identity card

  • Data (name and telephone number) of the recipient in Greece, or the data of the accompanying person

All other documents, e.g. birth certificate for unmarried persons, marriage certificate for married persons, death certificate of the spouse for widowed persons, etc. are only required for the final death certificate and can be conveniently submitted to the relevant registry office after the transfer of the deceased.

If documents are missing, a provisional death certificate will be issued by the registry office, which can be used to transfer the body to Greece without any problems.

 

What costs are incurred when transferring a deceased person to Greece?

The total cost of repatriating a body to Greece varies and depends on the following factors

  • place of death (travel costs)

  • Transport route (hearse, ferry or plane)
  • Airline freight costs (depending on the weight of the deceased)

  • Fees incurred at the hospital, registry office, cemetery, coroner's office, etc.

What services and fees do these costs include?

  • The coroner's fee of the doctor or the hospital

  • the collection of the deceased from the place of death and the subsequent transfer to us.</p

  • The hygienic care of the deceased

  • Performing the necessary preservation or embalming with formalin, including optical preparation (thanatopraxy).

  • We carry out the basic hygienic care, dressing (including own clothing if desired), legal coffining.

  • Legal transfer coffin with zinc insert, which is sealed airtight. Incl. pillow and blanket

  • Administration fees and booking of the flight to Greece

  • Issue of an international death certificate from the competent registry office

  • the corpse passport from the public order office
  • The submission of the German funeral documents to the Greek consulate.</p

  • Our fixed price is not reduced if individual services are not used.

If you require additional services or services that deviate from our offer, this is possible at any time for an additional charge.


What is the procedure?

  1. Fill out our order form and send it to us by email with the required documents and information.

  2. Wait until we have completed all the necessary documents and all other activities and we will get back to you.

  3. You will receive all important documents and information such as AWB consignment note, flight data, photos etc.

  4. The deceased is duly delivered to the airport and handed over to the forwarding company

As a rule, a smooth transfer of a deceased person to Greece takes between 5-10 working days.

 

How high are the costs for repatriation from Greece to Germany?

If a death occurs in Greece, we are able to cooperate with our local partners to repatriate the deceased to Germany. This is often associated with very high costs, so it always makes sense to take out travel health insurance.

The total costs are made up of the costs of the funeral director in Greece, any outstanding treatment costs from the hospital in Greece, and our services to the desired airport or cemetery.
